Kalamassery Blast
On Sunday morning, Sept 29th, 2023, a prayer meeting organized by Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kalamassery, Kochi, was rocked by three successive explosions.
Tragically, one person lost their life and 36 others were injured, with two in critical condition. The incident took place at the Zamra International Convention Centre around 9:45 a.m.

The blast in Kochi, Kalamassery blast, cause of the explosions is still unknown. The injured individuals have been swiftly transferred to Kalamassery Medical College for immediate medical attention.
According to a local witness, the explosions happened inside the convention hall during prayer time when people had their eyes closed.
It is still not clear whether the bomb blast in Kerala is by any organization. Unconfirmed rumors of a man claiming responsible for the blast have surrendered which increases the suspense of the blast.

Police States:
Explosion at the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ prayer meeting was caused by two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). A comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the culprits.
The police have also urged the public not to post any inflammatory content on social media, with strict action promised against those who do..
The update from the Police on the blast is, “Cannot confirm anything at this point and that details would only be revealed after the investigation.”
The annual convention, which started on October 27th, was set to end on Sunday at noon. The Sunday meeting had approximately 2,300 registered attendees from various locations all over Kerala and other states.

People were rushed to nearby hospitals including Aster Medicity. Witnesses say that they heard a huge explosion noise when they were praying with closed eyes followed by two other blasts within minutes.
Huge smoke also poured out creating panic however government has taken all steps to ensure this does not go out of control, especially with the Israel – Hamas war in the background.
NIA has also its officers on the ground and looking for any terrorist activity links.
The Man behind the blast
A 57-year-old man – Dominic Martin, claims to be a renegade member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, surrendered at a police station in Kodakara and confessed that he was behind the blast. Police are still investigating how he came up with the blasting device. Dominic insists that he learned from online videos but police still cant believe that such a crude complex device could be done by learning online.
